The applicant’s story

My name is Kwesi, and I operate Sun Harvest Cooperative in Kumasi, Ghana. We specialize in growing premium cacao beans and maize. Our primary daily challenge is navigating unpaved local transport routes and seasonal dry spells, which hinder our ability to get fresh yields to regional distribution hubs efficiently. Funding will allow us to install a reliable solar-powered irrigation drip system and upgrade our storage facilities. This will help stabilize our crop yield year-round, improve local food security, and protect the livelihoods of our community members.

The request

What the funding would support

Supplier quote: $2,000 for a solar-powered drip irrigation system kit from Kumasi AgriTech. Existing support: $300 local farming subsidy. Farm contribution: $200 from seasonal profits. Uncovered amount: $1,500 paid directly to Kumasi AgriTech. This funding will purchase and install a 1-acre solar drip irrigation kit (including pump, solar panel, filter, and main pipes) to ensure year-round water supply for our cacao and maize crops during dry spells. Kumasi AgriTech will install the equipment, and farm manager Kwesi will maintain it.
